Mantra is a too simple to be true healing therapy. I always just thought of mantra as a little trick to help you get into meditation. However, it turns out that it is little trick to help you get into healthy too.
One of the first times I began to notice this therapy was in reading about Emile Coue,
who was a French chemist [pharmacist] in the early 20th century.
When Coue began as a druggist, he did what chemist did in that day. The doctor would send the person with the prescription to him, and he would compound it. Then he would send them on their way.
One day he was not that busy, and when he handed the medicine to the patient he took a little time to praise the preparation. He said something like, “I am so glad the doctor prescribed this for you. I have seen it work wonders. This is the best thing for you. You will heal very fast. Etc.”
In a short time that same patient returned to his shop and thanked him for the miracle medicine he made. It was wonderful and worked just like Coue had said, fast and very effectively. Coue was scratching his head. He did not expect that it would have worked that good. He thought about what had just happened.
He thought this surprising healing maybe had something to do with the mind relating to the healing process. So he started to experiment with his clients. With some he did what he had always done. But with some he would give them the good medicine pep talk.
The efficacy of the medications were always boosted with the good medicine talking added on. They did not work a little better. The treatments seemed to work profoundly better.
So he began to cogitate on the results of his experiment and had another insight. Maybe it was not the drug itself that was doing the healing but the mind. So this time he started a new experiment.
If a patient had no drug treatment available to him, Coue would suggest a mind therapy. I am being a bit simplistic here. He would suggest a mantra for them. [He probably would not use that term, but he was doing that in fact.]
In general, he would tell them to do the mantra when they were trying to go to sleep and when they had just woken up. They were instructed to repeat something like “Everyday in every way I am better.” This was done daily. He started see amazing healings with pronounced incurable patients.
The time of this mantra was very important. When your are going to sleep and waking up, your mind passed through several levels of brain waves. When awake, you have normally brain beta waves. When you are fully asleep, you have moved into slow delta waves. Between fully awake and fully asleep there are alpha and theta waves. And in these two states of brain wave is where your subconscious becomes directly suggestible. These are the waves the hypnotist shoots for to do his suggestive work.
When Coue suggested doing the mantra just before sleep and as you wake up, he was in effect doing self hypnosis therapy
using natural life patterns. The mantra is being impressed directly on the subconscious mind. During the transition into sleep, you are intentionally blueprinting the subconscious.
When the thought is implanted in the subconscious, the subconscious starts to implement it in your body and life as it does with whatever else has been stored there. [As a man thinketh in his heart so is he.] This is what it does with all those things in your body that you do not think about but get done automatically.
The subconscious is working on things 24/7. Your body knows how to heal itself. With Coue mantra you just flip the healing on-switch,
and it will work in time. Too simple to be true, but it is. In Coue’s clinic in France many incurably ill patients flipped on that switch and were healed. They suffered from diverse ailments. This is a great therapy to use of itself or in concert with another therapy.
