E. Sleep Aid
Honey may act as a health sleep aid.
Being like sugar, it can cause a raise insulin levels and release serotonin, which is a neurotransmitter improving your mood and happiness. “The body converts serotonin into melatonin, a chemical compound that regulates the length and the quality of sleep,” Rene Ficek R.D. told Medical Daily in an email.
Honey also has amino acids, like tryptophan which is associated with turkey meat.
When honey raises insulin, it causes the honey’s tryptophan to cross the blood brain barrier. Once there it converts to serotonin and then to melatonin, a well known sleep aid. This hormone regulates sleep and wake cycles.
F. Treats Dandruff
Honey temporarily relieves the scalp as it targets dandruff. In 2001 the European Journal of Medical Research published a study which showed that applying honey diluted with 10 percent warm water to problem areas. They left the solution on for three hours. This gave itch relief and no scaling within a week.
Later skin lesions disappeared inside two weeks. The patients even found an improvement in hair loss. They did not relapse even after six months of use. It was not indicated if that was done daily or was a one time application.
Because of honey’s antibacterial and antifungal properties, it also treats naturally seborrheic dermatitis and dandruff. These are often associated with fungus. Further, “honey also has anti-inflammatory properties addressing redness and itching on the scalp,” Brennecke said.
